Sliding Sunglasses? Say No More!: How to Keep your Sunglasses From Slipping Down Your Nose
You know it’s that time of year again when you can feel the heat in the air and the rays of the sun barreling down on your skin and eyes. It's summer time! And with that comes the need to get yourselves some sunblock and a quality pair of sunglasses before you plan your next trip to the beach.
But unfortunately one common problem with sunglasses and all manner of eyewear in general is how to keep them from slipping down from the bridge of your nose like how an excited toddler goes down a slide at a playground.
As someone who has to wear eye glasses myself. I constantly have to deal with this problem day-in and day-out, and it seems to be a never-ending struggle against gravity, and thanks to this intense summer heat you can add sweat and a buildup of oil on your nose to the mix.
Fortunately, there are ways to keep your sunglasses in place:
Adjusting the Nose Pads and Hinges- Since the nose bridge is most often where the glasses tend to slip from, the most logical solution would be to have them adjusted to fit the contour of the bridge of your nose when you buy your next pair of sunglasses from the shop.
While this may not entirely stop your sunglasses from getting out of place when performing strenuous activities, in most cases this should be sufficient to keep them in place.
Alternatively, you can also have the screws on the hinges of your glasses tightened to better keep them in place, however it is best to have these adjustments done by professionals at the shop since tiny screws are easy to lose, and you may end up voiding the warranty if you damage your glasses trying to fix them yourselves
Adjusting the Frame itself- Just in case adjusting the nose pads or hinges don’t work for you, another option would be to have the frame itself adjusted to have a tighter fit on your head, however this option is only applicable to certain frames- usually those made of metal, and is only a last resort. This definitely goes without saying that this procedure should definitely never
be attempted at home as you risk breaking the frame beyond repair and voiding your warranty
Anti-Slip Accessories- If you’re not willing to take the risk of tinkering with your sunglasses to make them tighter, there also exists a variety of silicone or rubber accessories to help your glasses get a better grip on your skin, so rest assured that you’re no longer limited to using a cord that’ll leave you looking like a senior citizen. These accessories come in a variety of colors shapes and sizes so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Bonus, they can also make your sunglasses look cooler depending on whether or not you’re into a sci-fi or futuristic aesthetic.
In conclusion, this list is by no means an exhaustive one but you can rest easy knowing that gravity or oily skin will not impede in your enjoyment of the summer season when you buy your next pair of sunglasses.
